Interim Chief Accounting Officer - Massachusetts Based - SEC Client

Our team is working with a leading Massachusetts based publicly traded company looking to bring on a Chief Accounting Officer level consultant for a 5 month engagement. This will work alongside the CFO as well as outside Counsel/Advisory on this particular project.

Position Overview:

The CAO will be responsible for the integrity of the companys financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations. This role will be instrumental in overseeing the preparation and filing of all SEC documents, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and 8-Ks, and will serve as the key accounting leader liaising with external auditors and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of all SEC reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy, etc.) in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.
• Oversee the corporate accounting team and ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Responsible for performing external reporting controls to ensure SOX compliance
• Partner with Legal, FP&A, and Investor Relations to ensure consistency in external financial communications.
• Stay abreast of changes in SEC rules, U.S. GAAP, and accounting guidance to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure successful annual audits and quarterly reviews.
• Drive accounting policy development and adoption of new standards.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions including M&A, equity, and revenue recognition.
• Build and mentor a high-performing accounting organization.

Qualifications:

• CPA required; Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in public companies.
• Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
• Experience in Workiva, Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar systems a plus.
